Words have power; power to build and create a hope and a future. Power to encourage, strengthen and call to destiny. This is the power of blessing. However, words also have power to tear down, bring a sense of failure, fear and frailty. They have power to reject, isolate and disappoint.
The word ‘hurt’ means to infect pain, physical or mental; to harm, impair, grieve or offend. Careless words do hurt. As the most significant person in your child’s life think about your words and choose them wisely. Think to yourself, ‘What can I say to my child today that will bless them and inspire confidence and self worth.’
Tell them they are beautiful, that they have lovely eyes. Tell them they have a big heart and that you so appreciate all the kind things they say and do. Even if you only see it a little, speak it over their lives and it will produce life in them. There is a proverb that says the words of the reckless pierce like swords but the tongue of the wise brings healing. Strive to be wise with your words.
